Date the City: The Perfect Edmonton Date Night

Date the City

The perfect Edmonton date night

Golden hour views, dinner, a little neon, live music or comedy and a nightcap. Here’s my go-to Edmonton date night.

What is Date the City?

Fall in love with Edmonton, one day at a time

A good date night doesn’t need to be fancy. It needs a great view, good food and one thing that makes you laugh or sing along. Edmonton does all three really well.

Date the City is my series about getting to know Edmonton like a local. Grab your favourite person (or go solo) and try this plan. Then tell me how it went.

The plan

Your day, stop by stop

Golden hour

River valley views

Start at a lookout along Saskatchewan Drive or near the Legislature and watch the light hit the skyline and the bridges.

Dinner

104 Street

Cozy restaurants and cocktail bars on one of downtown’s prettiest streets.

After dinner

Neon Sign Museum

A free outdoor collection of restored vintage neon signs. It’s at its best after dark.

The show

Comedy or jazz

Laugh at an improv show at Rapid Fire Theatre, or catch live jazz at the Yardbird Suite.

Nightcap

Whyte Avenue

End the night with a drink or dessert on Whyte, Edmonton’s classic night-out street.

Hours and prices change, so check each spot’s website before you go.

Make it yours

Swap it for the season or your budget

Game night swap

Catch the Oilers at Rogers Place, or join the crowd watching in the ICE District.

Winter bonus

On clear, dark nights, drive outside the city lights and look for the northern lights.

Budget version

The neon walk and river valley views are free, and improv shows are an affordable night out.
